Henna Art: The art of henna designing (Part One)
11:50 AMIn the contemporary fashion society, the art of henna designing cannot be overlooked. Henna, as we know gives a reddish-brown stain, and when applied to the skin stains the skin. Henna art has been practised for over 5000 years, although, like other aspects of fashion, it designs wear in and wear out.
At first, the people of the desert used to use henna to cool down their bodies because of it natural cooling properties, they make a paste from the henna plant and soak their palms and soles of the feet in it to get an air conditioning effect. But as time goes by, people realize that they could stain their skin with it as it left patterns on the skin surface which led to the idea of making designs for decorative purposes.
Also, in some cultures, like Indian and Arabian, henna designing plays a major role in their weddings. Aside that, people from other cultures also adorn themselves with henna for weddings and other occasions. And it is also an alternative to permanent tattoo for people who can't stand to bear the idea of having the a the same design for the rest of their lives.
Today, people all over the globe have adopted the ancient traditions of adorning their bodies with the beautiful natural artwork created from the henna plant. The art of henna designing has now become very popular that even some celebrities in the West like Madonna, Rihanna, Gwen Stefani, Liv Tyler and many others adorn themselves and show them off in public, movies, videos, shoots, e.t.c.
Celebrities in Bollywood have also been known to adorn themselves with it from time, maybe, it is because it is a part of their culture, I will say that it is because of the pleasure and satisfaction derived from decorating yourself with henna. Henna in it whole and various form of existence makes you feel good.
The beauty of henna art cannot be over-emphasized, henna is just beautiful, henna is life, henna gives hope, that is why you see pregnant women adorning their bellies with it, chemotherapy patients decorating their heads with it and everyone adorning their hands and feet with henna.
